Infotainment Lift Castle Altena
Shaft sinking and tunnelling for the construction of an infotainment lift
Building a lift which takes visitors 80 metres up to the castle courtyard in around 30 seconds should create a barrier-free link between Altena Castle and the pedestrian area. To achieve this, an access tunnel needed to be driven, connecting to a shaft that links the castle courtyard level with the town centre.

A consortium comprising two companies, REDPATH DEILMANN and Feldhaus Bergbau from Schmallenberg, was commissioned to perform the special underground work.
The organisation of the shaft site at the castle presented a particular challenge in terms of the steep access road, the narrow castle gate and the generally restricted space available. All the machines had to be transported to the installation site as individual parts and then reassembled.
