Ground freezing prior to the excavation of cross-cuts in a tunneling project
In March 2017, REDPATH DEILMANN GmbH (formerly Deilmann-Haniel GmbH) was awarded a contract for ground freezing for a tunnel construction project, below the second Suez Canal, near Ismāilia in Egypt.
The client for the tunnel construction project is the engineering department of the Egyptian military.
REDPATH DEILMANN had to freeze the heavy water-bearing ground for 4 cross-cuts between the tunnel tubes. The necessary cold was produced by our own freezing machines.
These cooling units delivered brine at a temperature of -35°C.
REDPATH DEILMANN operated both the freeze plant and the temperature measurement system.
