Shaft Konrad no. 1 – Shaft rehabilitation Works


The construction work described is part of the construction project for the establishment of the Konrad repository. Shafts 1 and 2 of the former Konrad iron ore mine are to be prepared for the service of a repository mine. The former ore-hoisting shaft Konrad 1 is to be used as an extraction, a men-material and a cable shaft. The Konrad 2 shaft will be used for hoisting of containers with radioactive waste.

As part of the complete redesign of the Konrad 1 shaft hoisting system, the project involves the replacement of the existing wooden shaft guides with steel guides for the future operation of a skip and a large cage hoisting system. At the same time, the pipelines and cables systems in the shaft are to be renewed or extended. In addition, the shaft stations on the 3rd, 4th and 5th levels location as well as the concrete bricks lining in damaged areas of the shaft is to be repaired. Furthermore, the surface and underground construction site facilities required for the execution of work, as well as the necessary material handling equipment, such as mobile platforms, transport and auxiliary equipment has to be designed, supplied and installed.
