Ground freezing in shaft construction was largely developed and advanced by REDPATH DEILMANN, then still known as Deilmann-Haniel. Since the freezing process was patented in 1883, it has remained the only safe technology for drilling through water-bearing loose soils to great depths.

The freezing process is used in particular to create cross-passages between neighboring tunnels, to create passage openings for tunnel boring machines from the starting excavation in underground and suburban railroad tunnel construction and to secure excavation pits. The freezing process can also be used to repair service pipelines.
In line with our slogan "Innovation is our tradition", we are constantly working on further technical developments. Our innovations include mobile freezing systems that are installed in containers and a new method for drilling freezing holes using directional drilling technology.
By creating a frozen body of soil around the shaft , its stability is ensured and the ingress of water during sinking is prevented. For this purpose, freezing pipes are inserted into the ground. A refrigerant is then circulated through the pipes, freezing the surrounding soil and creating a continuous, cylindrical body of frost.
The shaft can then be sunk conventionally by drilling and blasting under the protection of the frost body. Finally, the shaft is removed watertight using a special support system.
Existing shafts are up to 100 years old and are exposed to a variety of loads. Despite durable construction methods, they are subject to natural wear and tear. We know the typical damage patterns and offer customized solutions for renovation, conversion and extension.
We are your partner for shaft construction and mine maintenance - from refurbishment and backfilling to rope replacement. We also plan and install shaft pipelines, secure and rehabilitate routes and develop efficient solutions.
Taking all relevant factors into account, we prepare feasibility studies and analyses and derive well-founded time and cost estimates. From approval to execution, we guarantee efficient planning in accordance with applicable standards in Germany and abroad. We ensure sustainable solutions through innovation and development.
Whether conventional or mechanical, on a pilot hole or full face sinking - we bring your shaft safely and on schedule to the final depth.
