As part of the construction of a repository for radioactive waste with negligible heat generation in the former Konrad iron ore mine, shaft Konrad 1 will be refurbished as a hoisting and ropeway shaft. This requires, among other things, construction measures to modernize the Konrad 1 shaft hoisting system.

Driveway from:

  • Loading pocket 850 m and 1,000 m level
  • Loading station extension drift
  • Storage transport route north
  • Shaft extension in the area of the 850m level

Other commissioned services:

  • Redesign of the shaft hoisting system for the future operation of a skip hoisting system and a large cage hoisting system in shaft Konrad 1
  • Preparation of approval and manufacturer-specific production planning for all systems to be erected
  • Planning, delivery and installation of the above-ground and underground construction site equipment, as well as all equipment required for the execution of the work, including temporary conveyor systems such as platform systems, emergency driving systems, etc.
  • Preparation of the approval planning for the implementation of the construction measures
  • Removal and relocation of shaft installations such as guidance systems, power and signal cables that are no longer required
  • Renovation of the shaft lining, mainly by cleaning and repointing the shaft masonry and filling the niches and chambers that were no longer required
  • Installation of the new shaft installations, pipelines and their relocation
  • Assistance with installing the power and signal cables
  • Installation of the shaft frame structures, the sump internals and the shaft and fire dampers
  • Creation of assembly and as-built documentation

  • Depth: 1232.5 m
  • Finishing: concrete blocks and brick masonry
  • Two main ropeways and one elevator
  • Double strut scaffolding with connected guide scaffolding

 

Special features

  • Working under nuclear law
  • Installation of up to 18 m long rock bolts
  • No blasting work possible
