Project objective
Shaft Konrad 2 is being prepared for the final repository for radioactive waste with negligible heat generation. The work is being carried out in the former Konrad iron ore mine in Salzgitter. The aim is to refurbish the shaft and excavate adjacent mine workings.

Scope of order

Driveway from:

  • Loading pocket 850 m and 1000 m level
  • Loading station extension drift
  • Branch to connect the filler expansion section and storage transport section
  • Storage transport route north
  • Shaft extension in the area of the 850 m level

Other commissioned services:

  • Preparation and revision of all necessary approval and implementation plans
  • Planning, delivery, assembly and dismantling of all above-ground and underground construction site facilities
  • Installation of temporary conveyor systems (e.g. platform system, emergency drive system),
  • Investigation of the masonry
  • Renovation of the shaft lining
  • Filling location on the 2nd level
  • Upgrading of the filling location on the 3rd level
  • Cross-section widening on the 2nd level
  • Partial excavation of the storage transport route
  • New construction of the shaft cellar (lawn suspension bench area) incl. weather channel
  • Placement of the shaft installations for later repository operation
